O Viper é uma banda brasileira de heavy metal, liderado pelo baixista Pit Passarell. Foi o primeiro grupo onde André Matos atuou como cantor.
 
O Viper começou em 1985, com a demo The Killera Sword, formado por André Matos (Vocais), Pit Passarell (Baixo), Yves Passarel (Guitarra), Felipe Machado (Guitarra) e Cássio Audi (Bateria).

 Logo veio um dos melhores álbuns de heavy metal tupiniquim o Soldiers of Sunrise, dando ao grupo o título de o Iron Maiden brasileiro. Também lançaram o Theatre of Fate, onde houve uma mudança no som da banda, com a entrada do tecladista Junior Andrade em 1987, que antes era um heavy tradicional ficou mais melodico e André Matos mostra que, sem duvida, é um dos melhores vocalistas do Brasil. Nesse período houve vários bateristas, antes de Cássio Audi o posto era ocupado por Anderson Ribeiro, o que é normal. Mas por divergências musicais com o resto da banda (que queria retornar ao heavy metal tradicional) e muito ocupado com a sua faculdade de música André Matos sai do Viper e Pit Passarel assume o vocal. 

O grupo lança outro álbum, que buscaria um metal mais pesado, o Evolution gravado pelo novo baterista Renato Graccia que já havia escursionado pela tour Theatre of Fate, mostrou um Viper heavy/thrash, mas maduro e é considerado um dos melhores álbuns da banda, que nessa época chega ao seu auge. 

Veio a bem-sucedida turnê no Japão, um álbum ao vivo o Maniacs in Japan uma gravação bem aplicada para um álbum de metal ao vivo.

 A viagem ao Japão aparentemente refletiu muito no próximo álbum Coma Rage, onde novamente a banda muda o som e assumi um heavy metal com algumas influências no hardcore, porém muito do Evolution ainda se vê no álbum, o álbum é bem produzido e bem recebido pelos fãs. Mais um álbum é lançado, Tem Pra Todo Mundo, a banda tenta se aproximar do público brasileiro fazendo um álbum com letras em português e com influências do pop, mas o álbum mal chega às lojas devido a falência da nova gravadora (Castle) da banda na época, com esse imprevisto a banda parou, retornando anos depois.

Em 2005, a banda regressou com Ricardo Bocci nos vocais, Val Santos na guitarra e Guilherme Martin (que ja chegou a tocar na banda anteriormente) na bateria. A banda lançou em agosto de 2005 o DVD "Living For The Night – 20 Years of VIPER", contendo imagens e vídeos de toda a carreira da banda.
