O Skid Row foi criado em 1986, em Nova Jersey nos Estados Unidos. A formação contava com os fundadores Dave "The Snake" Sabo (guitarra), Scotti Hill (guitarra) eRachel Bolan (baixo), além de Sebastian Bach (vocal) e Rob Affuso (bateria).
Três anos após a sua criação, saiu o aguardado debut. Lançado oficialmente em 24 de janeiro de 1989, o álbum homônimo mostrava um Hard Rock malicioso, com melodia e apelo comercial, mas também com a fúria juvenil dos músicos, fãs declarados de Heavy Metal e Punk Rock.
O contrato com a Atlantic Records veio com a ajuda de Jon Bon Jovi, que mostrou estar certo com a sua indicação, pois o álbum alcançou a marca de cinco vezes disco de platina, principalmente devido aos hits 18 And Life, Youth Gone Wild e I Remember You.
O trabalho seguinte, Slave To The Grind (1991) confirmou a boa fase, sendo o primeiro disco do estilo a estrear no primeiro lugar das pardas nos Estados Unidos. Este álbum mostra o talento do grupo, muito mais voltado para o Heavy Metal mas ainda com muita influência de Hard Rock.
Subhuman Race, lançado em 1995, mostrou o conjunto buscando uma sonoridade nova, porém que não agradou tanto, marcando o declínio da banda. A queda do conjunto, muito influênciada também pelo Grunge, culminou com a saída de Sebastian Bach por divergência de opiniões.
Sem o seu vocalista original, o Skid Row foi reformulado pelos guitarristas Scotti e Snake e pelo baixista Rachel Bolan, que se juntaram ao vocalista Johnny Solinger e ao bateristaCharlie Mills, que logo foi substituído por Phil Varone.
Com esta nova formação, lançaram o disco Thickskin em 2003, que apesar de tentar manter o espírito que consagrara o conjunto, não agradou à critica e aos fãs, principalmente pelas diferenças técnicas existentes entre Johnny Solinger e Sebastian Bach.
Revolutions Per Minute (2006) marcou a entrada do baterista Dave Gara, e apresentou muito peso sem descartar as origens do grupo, mesclando-as sabiamente com arranjos mais atuais.
Esté um trabalho que soube dosar bem a mistura entre o Hard, Punk e o Heavy Metal, o que mostrou que o conjunto vem acertando a mão.
